10 Questions You Must Ask Wedding Venues Before Booking

Choosing the right venue is one of the most significant decisions you will make for your wedding day. We have so many beautiful options in upstate New York the decision is tough!

What is the Venue’s capacity?
You should have an idea of what your guest count will be before going to look at venues. Keep in mind how all of your guests will fit in the space. One hundred guests in an area that can accommodate three hundred might feel empty.

What is included in the package?
What is included in your package will vary from venue to venue. Some include just about everything, while others only include the facility rental in their packages. Knowing what’s included will help you estimate additional costs you might incur.

Is the venue expected to undergo any changes in the upcoming future?
Venues undergo regular changes and remodels all the time. Knowing if your venue is planning any major changes ahead of time will keep you from any unexpected stress. If the venue is due to undergo a remodel, you’ll want to be sure everything will be up to your standards by your wedding date.

Will there be another event on your wedding date?
Some venues book more than one wedding per day. Some venues can pull this off, and others cannot. You may be limited on where you can take photos at your venue if they have another wedding booked the same day as you. You could also miss out on access to the bride suite for prep.

Ask about the cancellation policy.
If COVID has taught brides & grooms anything, it is to understand their cancellation policies completely! Read your contract and make sure you understand it.

When can you arrive at the venue?
If you plan on getting ready at your Venue or setting up/dropping off some décor the morning of your wedding, you’ll want to know when you can arrive! If your venue is a hotel and you plan on booking a room for the night of, you’ll want to know when your room will be ready and if they can guarantee an early check-in for you.

Does the venue have catering, or can we provide our own?
If you have your heart set on an outside caterer, this might be a deal-breaker.

Can vehicles be left overnight?/ Are there Ubers/Lyfts available nearby?
It is useful to know if vehicles are okay to leave overnight and how safe the parking area is for this. Some rural areas might have limited to no Uber or Lyft drivers available. You may need to consider this or let your guests know ahead of your day so they can plan accordingly.

Are there any extra charges that aren’t included in the package price?
Ask this question to avoid any hidden costs with your wedding venue, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Are there any décor restrictions?
Some venues have décor restrictions; you’ll want to check about them early on.
