The details of your wedding day contribute to the overall feel and story of your wedding. In most cases, you dedicated a lot of thought and care to plan out your wedding details. You’ll want to dedicate the same amount of care & intentionality to how these items are photographed. Here are a few ways you can make sure you’re wedding photos do your details justice:
What are wedding day details?
Your wedding day details can be anything that you’ve chosen to incorporate in your wedding day. Most of the details you’ll incorporate in your wedding are likely the finishing touches. While these items can be simple, they also play a huge part in setting the tone for your event. Therefore, it’s helpful to think about details related to different parts of your wedding day.

Setting Aside Time
If you’ve invested time planning out your details and want photographs of these details to help tell your wedding story, you’ll need to set aside time for your photographer to take these photos throughout the day. This is one of the reasons I always included a second photographer with all of my wedding collections. When I am capturing photographs of wedding details during the wedding day, my second photographer will be focused on capturing candid moments. One thing to take note of; if you’re hoping to have photos taken of your reception space, make sure you set aside some time for your photographer to take photos before guests arrive!
Organizing Your Details
Set aside all of your details; you can look at the lists above prior to your wedding day. Having these items collected together ready for your photographer when they arrive on the morning of your wedding will make sure that they can jump right into taking photographs and that you get the most out of your photographer investment! You’ll also want to have your dress ready for photos! Be sure to take it out of its bag and steam it! If you want to include your bouquets/boutonniere in your detail photos, coordinate with your florist & photographer to make sure these items will arrive in time for photos.
Communicate With Your Photographer
Let your photographer know about all the details you include on your wedding day! I send out a wedding questionnaire to all of my couples when they book with me, and on the questionnaire, I ask about any significant details/heirlooms they’re including in their wedding. This helps me make sure I capture photographs of all the items that are important to my couples!
What If I Don’t Have Any Details?
Trust me, you do! I showed up to the Bridal Suite the morning of Teagan’s wedding and asked her for all of her wedding details. She told me she didn’t really have any; I then began to ask her for a few items I know almost every bride has with her on her wedding day (jewelry, shoes, perfume), and we were able to capture these beautiful detailed portraits below!
What To Include With Your Details
The options of what you can include with your wedding details are limitless! Don’t be afraid to include something just because you haven’t seen it in photographs before! For example, Cari chose to include some items of her grandmother’s in her wedding details; you can see she chose to include her grandmother’s playing cards and earrings; I loved this idea!
