Did you know that there’s a ‘Kitten Season’? Yep! Every spring, animal shelters, and rescues see an influx of kittens needing homes. Rescued Treasures Pet Adoptions, the organization we foster through, receives multiple requests daily to take in litters of kittens.
It’s heartbreaking to witness helpless kittens being turned away because shelters and rescues can only take in as many kittens as they have room for. But there are ways we can help these little ones find their forever homes.
So what can You do?
Spread The Word
One thing you can do is spread the word about available kittens and cats. Social media is a powerful tool for rescues. Our youngest cat, Briar, found her way into our home because a friend shared a post about her on Instagram. Watching her play and grow through Instagram stories won me over, and I fell in love with her!
Donations
Another way to help is through donations. Contributions help cover vet bills, purchase food, and other essentials that aid in caring for animals in need. You can donate directly to the rescue I work with through this link.
Fostering
Fostering is also an excellent way to help these animals. I know some people may feel hesitant to foster because they’ll want to keep all the kittens, but it’s essential to remember that without fosters, these kittens wouldn’t find their forever homes. Fostering has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and I’m always overjoyed to see them find loving homes.
If you’re interested in fostering, I strongly encourage you to reach out to a rescue today. You can contact the same rescue I work with through this link.
Volunteering
Volunteering is another way to make a difference. Even if you can’t foster, organizations are always in need of administrative help, dog walkers, assistance with transportation, event planning, and so much more. Most organizations will work around your schedule, so you can choose when you want to volunteer. Whether you have one day, a week, or just two hours per month, imagine the good we could achieve if everyone pitched in.
Adopt Don’t Shop
Finally, I can’t stress enough the importance of adopting animals rather than shopping. Every year, approximately 1.5 million animals are euthanized in US shelters. Adopting animals in need of homes can save their lives and give them the love and care they deserve. Even if you have a specific breed in mind, consider adopting. Rescues and shelters often have purebred animals in need of forever homes. I’ve seen so many different breeds, including Dalmatians, Beagles, Huskies, Goldens, and Yorkies, find their forever homes through rescues.
Let’s all do our part to help these animals in need find their loving forever homes!
