Five Affirmations To Carry With You Into Summer

Something about summer feels incredibly freeing and strangely heavy at the same time.

The season invites us outside. Into the water, photographs, tank tops, bathing suits and weekends spent under the sun. And yet for so many women, summer also arrives carrying pressure. Pressure to look a certain way, to feel confident enough, to finally become the version of themselves they thought they’d be by now.

Every year, advertisements quietly remind women that summer is something to “prepare” for. That our bodies are projects. That joy should be delayed until we feel more worthy of taking up space in it.

But summer was never meant to be earned. It was meant to be lived.

The late-night walks. The beach days. The lake water on your skin. The smell of sunscreen, salt and bonfire smoke clinging to your sweatshirt afterward. The moments you’ll remember years from now will not be the number on the tag of your shorts.

They’ll be the moments you allowed yourself to fully be there for. So if you need something to carry with you into this season, let it be this:

1. My body is not standing between me and a beautiful summer.

You do not need to lose weight before you deserve to swim, travel, wear the dress, or exist comfortably in your own life. Summer is happening right now, not ten pounds from now.

2. Comparison will always try to steal the moment.

The quickest way to ruin a beautiful day is to spend it measuring yourself against everyone around you. Summer becomes a lot more enjoyable when you stop auditing your own appearance and start paying attention to your actual life.

3. My worth has nothing to do with how I look in a swimsuit.

Read that again.

4. I deserve photographs that include me too.

One day the people you love will want to look back and see you in the frame. Not because you looked perfect, but because you were there.

5. I am allowed to be seen exactly as I am.

Not filtered. Not hidden under oversized layers because you’re worried about what someone else might think. You are allowed to show up in photographs, at the beach, at the party, in the memory.

Summer moves quickly.

The lake days turn into cool evenings. The sunsets start happening earlier. The sandals get tucked away again before we even realize it happened.

I hope this season feels less like something you need to prepare your body for and more like something you allow yourself to fully step into. You deserve that.
