There’s something about the lake that brings us back to ourselves. Maybe it’s the way time slows down near the water, or how your mind finally quiets when your feet hit the sand. Whatever it is, lakefront sessions carry a different kind of energy. Calm, untamed, and beautifully real.
If you’re booked for a boudoir session at the lake, I want you to feel confident walking into it. Not just about the photos, but about how to prepare for the experience so it feels good from start to finish. Here are a few things I recommend bringing, wearing, and keeping in mind for your session.

Wear something easy to take on and off
Think of what you’d throw on if you were heading to the lake with your closest girlfriends. A pair of loose shorts and a t-shirt over your swimsuit works perfectly. You’ll want to be able to move around easily and change quickly without feeling fussy.
Choose your shoes wisely
Sand and sneakers are not friends. I’m a big fan of Birkenstocks or any waterproof sandals that are easy to slip on and off. Just something that lets you move between sand, grass, and water without thinking twice.
Keep hair and makeup simple or don’t
You can go full glam or show up with your bare face and a little sunscreen. Either is perfect. Just keep in mind that we’ll likely be getting wet, so whatever you wear should feel like you even when it’s a little undone. The beauty is in the realness here, not the perfection.

Pack a towel and something dry to change into
Once we’re done shooting, you’re probably going to be a bit wet, a little sandy, and ready for something dry. A towel and a fresh pair of underwear can make the ride home way more comfortable.
Go minimal with jewelry
Saltwater, sand, and delicate jewelry don’t always play nice together. If you want to wear something meaningful, make sure it’s waterproof or nothing you’re afraid to get a little gritty. Some of my favorite images are completely accessory-free.
Bring a few extras that make the session feel like you
This part is totally up to you. Some clients bring beautiful coverups or gauzy layers, others show up in an oversized cotton button-up or a favorite towel that smells like home. Sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, or any beachy accessories you already love can be a great way to add texture and personality to your photos. Don’t overthink it. If you already own it and love it, bring it.

Trust how it feels, even if it feels a little messy
You might have sand sticking to your legs, hair clinging to damp skin, or droplets running down your back. That’s all part of it. Some of the most powerful images come from moments that feel slightly undone. And I promise you, it’s going to look even more incredible than it feels in the moment.
Embrace the elements
We’re shooting outside, which means we’re working with whatever the weather gives us. Sunshine, clouds, wind, ripples on the water. They all add depth and texture to the story we’re telling. It’s part of what makes these sessions so unique.
If you’ve been craving a little more peace, a little more freedom, a little more you, the lake is waiting.

You’re not just booking photos. You’re giving yourself a moment to slow down, exhale, and come home to your body. Let’s make it count.
