Every summer in the Finger Lakes tells its own story. The warm mornings that slip into golden afternoons, the quiet evenings spent watching the sun paint the horizon, the way the water glimmers like glass, these are the moments that root themselves in memory. And yet, as each September rolls in, I always find myself wishing for one more swim, one more evening walk along the shoreline, one more lingering sunset.

This recent lakeside session was my way of saying farewell to summer. There’s something uniquely powerful about pairing boudoir photography with the Finger Lakes landscape. The softness of the sand, the rhythm of the waves, and the expanse of sky overhead create a setting that feels both grounding and freeing. Saying goodbye to the season here is bittersweet, but it’s also a reminder of how special it is to have this region as a backdrop.

Why the Finger Lakes Are the Perfect Setting for Boudoir
Boudoir sessions are about so much more than photographs, they’re about creating space to connect with yourself. The Finger Lakes provide that in abundance.
Unlike a studio where everything is carefully staged, the lake offers a natural stage. The breeze, the glow of sunset, the reflection of water, all of these elements invite you to relax, to let go of expectations, and to step into a version of yourself that feels both wild and at peace.
Outdoor boudoir here is less about posing and more about presence. It’s about letting the natural beauty around you draw out your own. When you’re standing in the water at golden hour or sitting quietly on the shore, you can’t help but feel grounded. And that’s when the most honest, beautiful images are created.

The Beauty of Seasonal Sessions
What makes summer in the Finger Lakes so special is also what makes it fleeting. The warm days, the soft evening light, the way the water seems to glow, all of it is here only for a few months each year. That scarcity makes outdoor boudoir sessions even more meaningful. They’re not something that can be recreated at any time of year; they’re tied to a season that feels sacred in its impermanence.
Choosing to do your boudoir session at the lake is choosing to preserve that season, not just in memory, but in art. It’s a way to honor where you are right now, in this moment of your life, while letting the natural world remind you of your own strength and beauty.
