I met Emily & Ryan for their Winter engagement session in downtown Rochester, New York. We had planned for a sunset session, so I kept checking the weather on my phone all day. The first half of the day was so beautiful that I was worried the sun would disappear by the time we met for their engagement session.

As I’m sure you can tell by the photos below, we were blessed with some amazing Winter weather.

Length Of Dating: 3 Years
Length of Engagement: 3 Months

Engagement Session Location
We chose to have their portraits taken in downtown Rochester. We originally planned on two locations, Highland Park and High Falls. However, when scouting High Falls, I saw that the area had not been plowed. So, when I met with Emily & Ryan, I asked if they were okay with skipping the High Falls area & they were. I am so happy we made that call because the lighting at Highland Park was just stunning!! This is one of the reasons I always scout the locations before shooting.

How They Met
“Ryan and I met in 2011 while working at Schooner’s Riverside Pub. We were friends for years before we started dating”

The Proposal
“I was so surprised when Ryan proposed (which is a huge accomplishment because I am the absolute worst person to try to surprise)! We had planned a trip down to Baltimore (where I lived after college) to visit my dear friend, Cait. He knew I would want to celebrate our engagement with her, so he planned on proposing during this trip. Unfortunately, Baltimore was hit with the worst coastal flooding they had seen in years during our drive down, putting a bit of a damper on his waterfront proposal plan. I now understand why he was so antsy during our six-hour car ride! Finally, we got to the hotel and settled in; then, suddenly, Ryan grabbed my hand, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. It was the perfect proposal, flood and all!”

The Ring
“Ryan and I had discussed marriage and talked a bit about what kind of rings I liked. I gave him two stone shapes that I was partial to; emerald and oval cuts. With the help of Bonnie at Mann’s Jewelers and my friend Cait, Ryan found the perfect way to meld the two styles – a radiant cut diamond. He nailed it!”

What Are You Most Looking Forward To About Your Wedding Day
Emily: “Aside from enjoying the amazing food at Jackrabbit Club, I am most looking forward to our first look. I cannot wait to have a special moment just the two of us before we say ‘I do’ in front of our family and friends.”
Ryan: “I am most looking forward to seeing Emily walk down the aisle because it means the wait is finally over!”
